Pharmaceutical Law in Austria

Two-thirds of prescription medicines offered in Austria are listed in the Reimbursement Code (Erstattungskodex). When such medicines are prescribed, patients only pay a prescription fee, while the respective health insurance fund covers the difference to the price listed in the Reimbursement Code. Medicines not listed in the Code can still be obtained by patients, but they must bear the full cost themselves. For a pharmaceutical manufacturer, being listed in the Reimbursement Code can therefore be of existential importance.

What we do: We assist pharmaceutical manufacturers in procedures for the inclusion of their products in the Reimbursement Code or in proceedings concerning the removal of their products from the Code. In addition, we advise market participants and interest groups on matters related to securing the supply of medicines in Austria.
