Europäische Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte

EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg can be called upon in cases of violations of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR has constitutional status in Austria. If the rights guaranteed by the Convention, for example, the right to a fair trial (Article 6 ECHR), the right to respect for private and family life (Article 8 ECHR), freedom of thought, conscience and religion (Article 9 ECHR), freedom of expression (Article 10 ECHR), freedom of assembly and association (Article 11 ECHR), or protection of property (Article 1 of Protocol No. 1), are infringed, individuals can file an application with the ECHR once all domestic remedies have been exhausted.

What we do: Fundamental rights are our strength. Whether it concerns the 1867 Basic Law on the General Rights of Citizens, the 1920/1929 Federal Constitutional Act, the European Convention on Human Rights or the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights — we are specialists in protecting these rights before the Constitutional Court in Vienna and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. We have achieved remarkable success in highly complex proceedings — and we do not give up. For example, we represented a group for twelve years until we ultimately secured their recognition as a religious community before the European Court of Human Rights.
